You are giving up too soon – Part 2 .

You are giving up too soon

2 Chronicles 15:7, β€œBut as for you, be strong and do not give up, for your work will be rewarded.”

We will be continuing on the topic: You are giving up too soon by digging deeper into what giving up means and the dangers of giving up.

To give up means to be discouraged, to lose heart, to let your hands become weak, to slack off. In all these descriptions, there is no positive thing about giving up.

God expects us as his children to know that things may not be rosy all the time but we have the assurance we will come out victorious even in the difficult times and that he will be with us throughout the journey.

Isaiah 43:2 β€œ When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze”. This he said to us so that we can be better prepared for what may lie ahead.

One of the reasons why you shouldn’t give up at all is that giving up is a sign of being faithless.

Peter had started walking on water and the experience would have been surreal but the minute he doubted and looked at the storm on the water, he started sinking and had to cry out for Jesus to help bring him out of the water. When you give up, you give yourself up to the element of the world instead of taking charge.

Another reason why it is dangerous to give up is because you may be very close to your breakthrough and giving up will rob you of that; a vivid example that comes to mind is the story of two sisters; Mary and Martha whose brother was sick and called on Jesus to come and heal him. Jesus stayed for 2 more days, and by the time he arrived, Lazarus was dead.

Jesus asked them where they laid him but the response that came from the sisters shocked Jesus; they said master by now he stinketh, meaning we have given up because there is no hope for our brother again.

We know that he will resurrect on the last day, but unknown to them, their brother could still be raised back to live at that very moment. The rest is history because Jesus brought back Lazarus from the dead. Had it not been for Jesus’ patience and benevolence, they would have lost that testimony.

You are closer to your breakthrough than you know, so don’t give up because winners are not people who never failed but those who never gave up.

Confession
I will continue to persevere because I know my redeemer lives and that I will come out victorious.
