Who Is the Holy Spirit?
Verse:
“But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.”
— John 14:26 (NIV)
The Holy Spirit can sometimes seem like a mystery. We know He’s part of the Trinity—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—but many of us struggle to fully understand His role in our lives. Who is the Holy Spirit, and what does He do? The truth is, the Holy Spirit is not just an abstract force or an impersonal power. He is a person, with a heart, a mind, and a will, and He plays a vital role in our relationship with God.
When Jesus spoke about the Holy Spirit in John 14:26, He described Him as the “Advocate.” This means the Holy Spirit is our helper, our counsellor, and our guide. He is sent by God to support us, comfort us, and lead us in our everyday lives. When we struggle or don’t know what to do, the Holy Spirit is there to guide us, teaching us and reminding us of God’s truth.
Take the story of Mark, a young man who was struggling with a decision in his life. Mark had been offered two job opportunities, but he was uncertain about which one to take. On his own, he felt lost—both jobs seemed good, but he wasn’t sure which one was God’s will for him. One morning, Mark decided to pray and ask the Holy Spirit for guidance. As he prayed, he felt a deep sense of peace come over him, along with a strong sense that one job was right for him. It wasn’t an audible voice, but an inner conviction that helped him make his decision. He realised that the Holy Spirit had guided him in that moment.
This is just one example of how the Holy Spirit works in our lives. He doesn’t force us or take away our free will, but He gently nudges us, helping us discern the right path. The Holy Spirit also empowers us to live out our faith, gives us strength in times of weakness, and helps us grow spiritually.
In addition, the Holy Spirit plays a significant role in our spiritual transformation. Through Him, we are convicted of sin and drawn closer to God. He helps us become more like Jesus, changing our hearts and minds to reflect His love and truth. Without the Holy Spirit, living a Christlike life would be impossible.
The Holy Spirit is also with us in our times of trouble. When we feel alone, He is there to comfort us. When we don’t know what to pray, He intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express (Romans 8:26). He is not a distant force but a loving companion, always with us and always ready to help

The Holy spirit is our advocate, the One sent by Jesus to be with us all. Before Christ gave His life for us all, the Holy Spirit would only come upon certaim peiple for a certain amount of time. The Comforter was bot with them always. As Jesus decreed, when He goes, He will send the comforter to us all. We have something that not even the 12 disciples had. We are truly blessed.
If we accept Jesus, have faith, we automatically get the Holy Spirit to help us and keep our path straight.
Though a lot of people may not see the true value in the Holy Spirit, He is vital to the Trinity. Father, Son and Spirit are the perfect ‘team’, each fulfilling a part of our lives and work so perfectly together. The Holy Spirits role is to be with us all day and every day, to help us through life and guide our hearts. The entire bible was written by men who were given inspiration by the Spirit of God. The Holy Spirit is the author of the bible, not Paul, Matthew or any other man. They were all speaking and writing through the spirit. Like the verse says above, ‘we will remember all things Jesus has said to us’ with the Holy Spirit.
