Using Your Time for God

Verse:
“Be very careful, then, how you liveβ€”not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.”
β€” Ephesians 5:15-16 (NIV)

Time is one of the most precious gifts God has given us, yet it’s something many of us take for granted. We often get so caught up in the busyness of lifeβ€”work, social media, errandsβ€”that we forget to ask, β€œAm I using my time for God’s purposes?”

Paul’s words in Ephesians remind us to live wisely and make the most of every opportunity. This doesn’t mean we should spend all our time in church or neglect daily responsibilities, but it does mean prioritising God’s purpose in how we live.

Take Mark, for example. Mark worked long hours at his job, often feeling too tired to spend time with God or serve in his church. He kept telling himself he would β€œmake time” for God later. One day, he realised that weeks had turned into months, and he felt spiritually dry and disconnected. Convicted, Mark decided to re-evaluate his priorities.

He started small, setting aside 15 minutes each morning to pray and read the Bible. Over time, he added more intentional activitiesβ€”like volunteering with the youth group at church and sharing his faith at work when opportunities arose. Mark still had a busy schedule, but by putting God first, he noticed his life felt more balanced, purposeful, and joyful.

The truth is, we all have the same 24 hours in a day. The question is how we use them. God isn’t asking for perfection, but He does want us to prioritise Him in our daily lives. That might mean dedicating time for prayer, studying His Word, serving others, or even pausing to encourage someone who needs it.

When we use our time wisely for God, it doesn’t just benefit us; it impacts those around us. The small decisions we make to honour Him with our time can lead to eternal results. Whether it’s mentoring a young believer, being present for a friend in need, or sharing the gospel with a colleague, every moment spent for God’s glory is never wasted.

Confession:

I declare that my time is a gift from God, and I will use it wisely. I choose to prioritise His purpose in my daily life, making room for prayer, worship, and service. I trust that as I honour Him with my time, He will guide my steps and make my efforts fruitful.

  32. Thank you Pastor. Usinhlg our time for God can be challenging. We are all very busy with work, family and raising children. We have bills to pay and get caught up with life. Pastor says it best, we must be intentional. We must build capacity.

Having a structure and routine can help all of us. We have a structure for work, so why not for God? Set alarms and have dedicated parts of the day that you speak to your Saviour. You will find that it then becomes a habit and growth will happen.

When we spend time with God, we will notice His work in our life more, we will not be quick to anger, we will deal with challenges differently, we will take our problems to God first in prayer.

I pray that my family and i set aside time to speak to our Saviour, that we create a structure that will become a habit. Our spirit man will continue to grow on Jesus mighty name. Amen

    More grace for you Pastor
