The Brook Has Dried Up

Verse:
“Some time later the brook dried up because there had been no rain in the land.”
1 Kings 17:7 (NIV)

There are times in life when things seem to be going well, and we feel secure in the path we’re walking. But then, without warning, circumstances change. We find ourselves facing a dry seasonβ€”whether in our finances, relationships, health, or spiritual life. It can feel like the brook has dried up, and what once felt abundant and flowing has suddenly come to an end.

In 1 Kings 17, we read about the prophet Elijah, who had been sent by God to a brook called Cherith. God instructed Elijah to stay there, where he would drink from the brook, and ravens would bring him food. For a time, this arrangement worked perfectly. Elijah trusted God, and God provided. But after some time, the brook dried up. There was no more water, and Elijah’s immediate source of provision had come to an end.

This moment in Elijah’s life was a turning point. The drying up of the brook didn’t mean that God had abandoned him. In fact, it was part of God’s plan. The drying up was a signal that it was time for Elijah to move on to the next step in God’s plan. God had already prepared a widow in Zarephath to provide for Elijah, but Elijah had to trust God and take a step of faith.

When the brook dries up in our lives, it’s easy to feel lost, discouraged, or frustrated. We may wonder why things have changed or why things no longer feel as they once did. But it’s important to remember that God is still at work, even in the dry seasons. The drying up of the brook is not a sign of God’s abandonment; it’s a sign that He is moving us towards something new.

Take the example of Sarah, a woman who had worked in a well-paying job for years. However, after a series of changes at her company, she found herself unexpectedly laid off. At first, Sarah was devastated. She had relied on her job for stability and security, and now it felt like everything had fallen apart. But as Sarah took some time to reflect and pray, she realised that this β€œdry brook” was leading her in a new direction. She started a new business, one that she had always dreamed of but had never had the courage to pursue. Today, her business is thriving, and she is more fulfilled than ever.

In Sarah’s story, and in Elijah’s, the drying up of the brook wasn’t the endβ€”it was the beginning of a new season, a new opportunity, and a new step in God’s plan. While the change may feel difficult or uncomfortable at first, we can trust that God knows what He is doing. He is always leading us to something better, even if we can’t see it at the moment.

Is there an area in your life where you feel like the brook has dried up? Take a moment to reflect on this season and ask God to help you see what He is leading you toward. Trust that, even in the dry seasons, He has a plan for your life, and He is guiding you to something new and better. Pray for the faith to step forward, even when it’s unclear what lies ahead

Confession:

I declare that even when the brook dries up in my life, I will trust in God’s plan for me. I know that He is always leading me to something better, and I will not be afraid to step out in faith. When one door closes, another opens, and I believe that God is guiding me to new opportunities, growth, and blessing. I will not allow fear or disappointment to hold me back, because I know that God is with me every step of the way. πŸ™

Good morning and thank you my pastor
    Always remain blessed sir

  36. In every disappointment, is a blessing. God knows that for each of us to grow, we can not stay in the comfort zone for long. We can get so comfortable in Gods goodness, that He needs to shake things up for our good.

God is forcing us to grow more. If we are not prayerful, God may give us a few more challenges to increase our prayer life. God is loving and just, it is all for our good.

If we look at diamonds, the toughest and most valiable mineral on earth, they can not be made without years of pressure and hardship. When God puts us through challenges, He wants us to become diamonds, He is doing it from a place of love.

I pray that every dry season will preceed my biggest and most bountiful harvest, that i will relish the challenge and come closer to becoming a diamond through Gods work on my life, in Jesus name i pray.
