Overcoming Fear with Faith
“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” – 2 Timothy 1:7 (NKJV)
Fear is a powerful emotion. It can grip our hearts, cloud our judgment, and keep us from stepping into the fullness of what God has for us. Whether it’s the fear of failure, rejection, the unknown, or even success, fear has a way of making us doubt ourselves and God’s promises. However, the Bible reminds us that fear does not come from God. Instead, He has given us a spirit of power, love, and a sound mind—everything we need to walk confidently in faith.
Many people allow fear to dictate their choices, causing them to play it safe rather than trust God’s direction. Have you ever felt called to do something but hesitated because of fear? Maybe it was a business idea, a ministry, a job opportunity, or even speaking in public. You felt deep inside that it was the right step, but fear whispered, What if you fail? What if people judge you? What if you’re not good enough? These doubts don’t come from God. They are distractions from the enemy, designed to keep you from fulfilling your God-given purpose.
A woman named Sarah experienced this firsthand. She had always wanted to start a small bakery, but fear held her back. She worried that she didn’t have enough skills, money, or confidence to make it work. For years, she watched others succeed while she remained stuck in self-doubt. One day, she attended a church service where the pastor spoke about stepping out in faith and trusting God’s provision. That message struck her heart. She went home, prayed, and decided that she would no longer let fear control her.
Sarah started small—baking from her home and selling to family and friends. Over time, word spread about her delicious cakes, and opportunities began to open up. She faced challenges along the way, but each time fear crept in, she reminded herself of 2 Timothy 1:7—God had given her power, love, and a sound mind. Years later, she now owns a successful bakery, and she often looks back and wonders what would have happened if she had let fear win.
Fear will always try to creep into our lives, but we don’t have to let it control us. When we stand on God’s promises and walk in faith, we overcome fear. This doesn’t mean we won’t feel afraid sometimes, but it does mean we choose to move forward despite fear. Courage is not the absence of fear; it’s choosing faith over fear.
If fear has been holding you back from pursuing what God has placed in your heart, it’s time to let it go. God has equipped you with everything you need. You have His power working within you. You have His love surrounding you. You have a sound mind to make wise decisions. Fear may come knocking, but you don’t have to answer. Instead, declare God’s truth over your life and take the step He’s calling you to take.

I receive the spirit of of power, love, and a sound mind. 🙏🏾🙌🏽😇 When feelings of fear overwhelm me, I will recognise them and step forward in faith and courage, decreeing and declaring “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. 💪🏽🌟💖”.
Face everything and rise, that is what we should think of when we hear the word fear. We should take it as an oppourtunity to showcase the power we have in Christ to overcome any obstacle.
Be aprehensive and cautious regarding situations is fine, but we can not let it manifest into fear. The scripture clearly says that fear is not of God. Once we know that, our faith will get us through the challenge ahead.
If fear is not of God, it can only be from the enemy, and we know the enemy does not want anything good for us. It is his way of keeping us down and questioning Gods mandate in our lives. Fear is a very strong feeling, thats why we need to be even stronger in faith so the devil can not get a stronghold in our life.
