Draw the Line!
James 4:7 – “Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”
There are moments in life when we face decisions that demand a clear stand. The world pulls us in many directions, offering temptation, distraction, and compromise. In those moments, we are called to “draw the line.” To make a firm stand against sin, against worldly values that conflict with God’s Word, and against the forces that seek to weaken our faith. James 4:7 calls us to “submit ourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” This passage reveals a powerful truth: standing firm in our faith requires both submission to God and resistance to the devil. To draw the line means acknowledging where we need boundaries in our lives, where we say, “This far and no further.” It is about deciding not to allow the enemy any foothold, not giving him space to whisper lies, or to tempt us into compromising our values, our destinies and our lives.
Drawing the line is not just about avoiding obvious sin. It’s about cultivating a heart that chooses to follow God’s will in every area of life. It means recognizing when we are walking too close to the edge; too close to temptation, too close to compromise and saying, “No, I will stand firm in my faith.” Drawing the line is about creating a necessary gap for God to work in us, undistracted and unhindered.
This isn’t always easy. When we look at the case of Joseph who drew the line with Potiphar’s wife who wanted to sleep with him, he stood his ground and said in Genesis 39:9 …. I cannot “do such a wicked thing and sin against God”. It doesn’t stop there, for the enemy doesn’t give up without a fight, and sometimes, the temptation to give in or to conform is overwhelming. But we are not left alone in this battle, for the Bible reminds us that even though Joseph was imprisoned, “the Lord was with him……and granted him favour in the eyes of the prison warden” (Genesis 39:21). God gives us His Holy Spirit to empower us to resist and to walk in His strength. The key to drawing the line is remembering that victory is not in our own power but in God’s power, as seen when Joseph is redeemed and granted the role of being in charge of all of Egypt (Genesis 41:41).
As we submit ourselves to Him, we receive the grace to draw a clear line, whether in relationships, choices, or areas of personal weakness. With God’s guidance and help, we can draw the line firmly and confidently, trusting that God will provide the strength we need to hold it.
Today, ask yourself: Where do you need to draw the line? What areas of your life need a firm stand for God’s truth? Take a moment to submit those areas to God and ask Him to help you resist the devil and stand firm in your faith.

It may be difficult but it is important if we will get to our promise land. There are many things contending against our destiny and since we have chosen to be in God’s side, we have taken a stand but the devil will not give in hence the reason to continue to draw a lines in every area of our lives and not compromise.
