Discerning God’s Will!
Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.”
Discerning God’s will is one of the most sacred and important aspects of the Christian walk. It’s a journey of aligning our hearts with God’s heart, seeking His guidance in every decision, and trusting in His perfect plan for our lives. The idea of knowing God’s will can feel overwhelming at times, especially when we’re facing difficult decisions or unsure of the next step. But the Bible reassures us that God is not silent; He is actively guiding His people, and He desires for us to understand His will.
The first step in discerning God’s will is understanding that God’s will is good and perfect. As Jeremiah 29:11 reminds us, His plans for us are not to harm us but to give us hope and a future. Even when circumstances seem unclear or when we experience hardship, we can trust that God’s heart toward us is always good. His will is not driven by confusion or frustration but by love, grace, and wisdom beyond our understanding. Romans 12:2 speaks of the process of transformation in discerning God’s will: “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” This verse teaches us that discernment is a process, which involves being transformed by the renewing of our minds. We are to surrender our thoughts and desires to God, allowing Him to reshape them through His Word and through the power of the Holy Spirit. The more we immerse ourselves in His presence and seek His truth, the clearer His will becomes.
Proverbs 3:5-6 offers us another crucial principle: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make straight your paths.” Discerning God’s will requires surrendering our own understanding and trusting that His wisdom far exceeds our own. Often, we are tempted to rely on our limited perspectives or the opinions of others, but true discernment comes from trusting God fully, acknowledging His sovereignty in every area of life, and recognizing that He will guide us along the right path.
God’s will is not always something we can fully grasp with our human minds, but He promises to lead us step by step. The Holy Spirit, as our Comforter and Guide, gives us wisdom, peace, and direction as we navigate life’s decisions.
In sum, discerning God’s will is not about finding a singular moment of clarity but about walking daily with Him in trust, surrender, and prayer. It’s a journey of transformation, where we continually align our hearts to His, knowing that His will is good, pleasing, and perfect. As we renew our minds through His Word, seek His wisdom in prayer, and trust His leading, we can walk confidently in the paths He has set before us.

Some truths about Discerning God’s will.
1. God desires that we know his will
2. We need to know that we can understand God’s will and have the heart cry
3. You need to be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Surrendering your thoughts and desires to him
4. Study his word & pray to know his voice
5. Trust him always because his will is perfect.
6. Obey his instruction whenever he guides you to receive more guidance.
7. Knowing the will of God is a step by step process and he reveals this to us day by day.
God desires that we know His will through studying the word of God and we can know the will of God by the renewing of our mind using the word of God. Trust and obey his will daily and he will direct our path. Thank you Pastor, increased grace.
