Bearing Fruit for the Kingdom
Key Verse:
“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” — John 15:5
Fruit-bearing is a central part of living as a follower of Christ. In John 15:5, Jesus paints a beautiful picture of how our lives are meant to be productive and impactful for His kingdom. He compares Himself to a vine and us to branches. Just as branches need to stay connected to the vine to produce fruit, we need to stay connected to Jesus to live a life that makes a difference.
What does it mean to bear fruit? It’s not just about doing good deeds—it’s about producing qualities in our lives that reflect Jesus. Galatians 5:22-23 calls this the fruit of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. When we stay close to Jesus, these traits grow in us, and others see His character in our lives.
Imagine a fruit tree. It doesn’t struggle or strain to bear fruit; it happens naturally as long as the tree is healthy and connected to its source of nourishment. In the same way, bearing fruit for God’s kingdom isn’t about trying harder. It’s about staying connected to Jesus through prayer, reading the Word, and living in obedience to Him.
However, staying connected to Jesus isn’t always easy. Life is busy, distractions come, and sometimes we drift. But just like a branch separated from the vine can’t produce fruit, we won’t see spiritual growth if we’re not rooted in Him. Staying connected requires intentionality. It means prioritising time with God, even when life gets hectic.
Jesus also warns that apart from Him, we can do nothing. This is a humbling reminder that all our efforts are meaningless if they’re not rooted in Christ. Have you ever tried to do something in your own strength, only to end up frustrated or burnt out? That’s what happens when we rely on ourselves instead of Jesus.
Bearing fruit also involves pruning. In John 15:2, Jesus says, “He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit, he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful.” Pruning can feel uncomfortable—it might look like letting go of certain habits, relationships, or even opportunities that aren’t part of God’s plan. But just like a gardener prunes a tree to make it healthier, God removes things from our lives to help us grow stronger in Him.
Bearing fruit for the kingdom isn’t just about what we do—it’s about who we’re becoming. When we stay connected to Jesus, He shapes us into His image, and our lives naturally produce fruit that glorifies God and blesses others.

A tree that is not connected to its source cannot bear fruit. Also for it to bear more fruits, the branches of the tree have to be pruned.

Thank you Pastor, very thought provoking. There is a saying on St Lucia,’a Mango tree doesnt produce Bananas’. This means that the whatever DNA is in the tree, thats what fruits it will bare.
If we are the branches of Christ, we will bare His DNA. We will look like Him and be like Him. The same way a tree can produce ‘rotton fruit’, we must be careful not to allow the ‘rottoness’ of the world effect our growth.
I love the way you mentioned pruning sir, this can be self pruning or pruning through the Word of God. We must know what parts of our lives to cut off and we must also take heed of what the Bible tells us to do. We cant be a fruit of Christ if we directly go against how he wants us to live our lives.
If the branch is separated from the tree, growth stops immediately and the fruit will no longer grow, but start to perish as long as it remains separate. But in Jesus’ infinate wisdom and mercy, He offers hope to even fallen ‘branches’, they can be resurrected and grafted back on, thus showing Christs forgivenes. Romans 11:23
[23] They also, if they don’t continue in their unbelief, will be grafted in, for God is able to graft them in again.
Apostle Paul is explaining in this parable that even the Jews who denied Christ, can be grafted back in amd obtain his mercy. So even if we have fallen, Christ offers us hope that we can be reconnected to His DNA and become whole again.
I pray that we can bare the fruits of the spirit and remain attached to Christ, that just as you see an apple on an apple tree, people will see my family and i and see that we are attached to Christ im Jesus mighty name.

People have to be connected to God to get his perfect plan for everyone, like a vine, God is the vine and we are the branches, for example, if the branches can’t connect to the vine, they can’t bear fruit, but if the branches connect with the vine, they can bear fruit.
Dear God, please help me to be connected to God and please allow me to bear fruit, in the mighty name of Jesus, Amen
The fruit we bear is the fruits of the spirit, the fruits of the spirit is, love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, fruitfulness, and self control.
As it says in Colossians 3:16, Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.
In that scripture it says, Let God dwell in you, help you, comfort you, and allow you to believe in him.
Dear God, please let God dwell in me and put the fruits of the spirit, in the mighty name of Jesus, Amen.

The fruit we should bear are these so when the devil tries to change our fruits we will not sway from GODs goodness and mercy so that we can have eternal life.
Dear GOD please may you remove all things unholy from my life and replace it with goodness, Amen.
